Fitness Tip: Overcoming fear 😱 takes courage
I finally overcame my fear of doing a handstand hold 🤸♀️in a workout this week. I avoided doing them for the past 4 years! I know some people have no problem just kicking up onto the wall, but for me, I really struggled mentally with it. Then add in the intensity of doing it in the middle of a workout with other exercises that fatigue your shoulders, and it could be a disaster waiting to happen 😬!!
My coach @joshvales “Judgy Josh” told me I could do it. After strongly disagreeing, I reluctantly tried anyways. I mean, I am 44 years old, and didn’t start CrossFit until 4 years ago! I was surprised to find that I could actually do it👏. I always thought my shoulders would just give-way, and I’d come crashing down on my noggin 🤯!!
It gave me a new-found confidence that I didn’t realize I had. I still have other things to tackle🤼♀️, but I’m proud that I found the courage to give it a shot.
I’d like to challenge you to try something new. I started my fitness journey at age 40. I had never been to a gym before that. ! I had never picked up a barbell 🏋️♀️, done a pull-up, burpee, back squat, clean, strict press, or a deadlift. The list goes on. I’m so glad I took that step. I can honestly say, it has changed my life. It doesn’t matter how old 👵🏻you are, or what kind of shape you’re in, it’s never to late to get started 👊!
Try something that takes you out of your comfort zone 🧗♀️ every once in a while. I bet you’ll find that you can do whatever you put your mind to 🙌🏻!
